Ramnaresh Sarwan is thrilled about the prospect of ending his 18-month international exile by playing for West Indies in their limited-overs series in Australia.

Leicestershire captain Sarwan, 32, is in the Windies' 15-man party to take on Australia in five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 contest in the next month.

As a team we like the ball when it comes onto the bat so we should enjoy the conditions in Australia.

"I'm happy to be back in the team. Obviously I've been out for a while, but it feels really good to be back representing the West Indies. I am really looking forward to this tour and I'm confident things will go well for us in Australia," Sarwan said.

Ex-West Indies captain Sarwan has an excellent ODI record. In 173 appearances he has compiled more than 5,500 runs at an impressive average of 43.41 - in comparison England's number three Kevin Pietersen averages a touch under 42.

Sarwan replaces Marlon Samuels, star of the World Twenty20 final win over Sri Lanka last autumn, who is nursing a serious facial injury caused by a Lasith Malinga bouncer.

"As a team we like the ball when it comes onto the bat so we should enjoy the conditions in Australia," added Sarwan. "I have played there a few times and we have other experienced members of the team who have played there as well.

"The team has been playing some good cricket recently so I will just fit in. I am an experienced player at the international level and will look to make a contribution in any way I can.

"It's a matter of me trying to get myself in and settle down and look to get big scores for the team. I want to get scores and help the team to win matches."

If Sarwan manages to deliver he will have a good chance of featuring in the Champions Trophy in June. West Indies are 1212/1 to claim their second title, having lifted the trophy when the tournament was last held in England in 2004. England are 11/10 to win the Champions Trophy while Australia can be backed at 1212/1 and India at 8/11.
