England slide towards defeat
Keaton Jennings, Gary Ballance, Joe Root and Alastair Cook all perished before lunch as South Africa moved towards a big victory in the second Test against England.
Needing an unlikely 474 to beat the Proteas at Trent Bridge, England had started the fourth day on 1-0 and made the worst possible start when Jennings was comprehensively bowled by Vernon Philander in the second over of the day for one.
The score had moved on to 28 when England lost their second wicket, the hapless Ballance being trapped lbw by Philander after the Yorkshire batsman had made four.
Another 27 runs had been added when captain Root was bowled by a superb Chris Morris ball for eight and the same bowler then took the key wicket of Cook, the former England captain being undone by a short ball and being caught off the glove by Quinton de Kock for 42.
Jonny Bairstow was unbeaten on 12 at lunch while Ben Stokes was five not out as the score moved on to 79-4. However, England need a miracle if they are to avoid defeat as there are still five sessions left and the weather in Nottingham is set fair.
England are 2.00 to clinch an unlikely victory, with South Africa 2.00 to triumph and the draw is available at 2.00.
