Sanderson considers interstate

Trainer Shane Sanderson has admitted an interstate trip could be on the cards for Im The Smoocha if things go to plan at Menangle on Saturday night.

The in-form pacer has been making his way through grades this season and Sanderson will be hoping he can break his maiden status at Tabcorp Park this week.

They will be a great learning curve for him and give an indication on whether he can take another step.

Sanderson will make a decision after Saturday night's race, but a pair of Victorian country cups early next season could be on the cards.

"Depending on how he goes, but I may give him a couple of weeks off after Saturday and then look at some of the country cups in the new season," Sanderson said. "Races such as the Swan Hill and Maryborough Cups in October could be ideal.

"They will be a great learning curve for him and give an indication on whether he can take another step.

"He's pretty strong, and the more distance he goes, the better he is. I can't see why he won't be up it."

Im The Smoocha has picked up seven wins and two seconds from his last nine outings, and has a good chance to build on that after landing barrier two.

Im The Smoocha was beaten a short half-head last weekend, but Sanderson is delighted with draw and is backing him to return to the winners' circle.

"I'm very happy with the draw and the way he is going," Sanderson said. "The draw and the distance being over 2300 metres really give him a big chance.

"As long has he races as well as he can, he will win."
