South Africa limited-overs international all-rounder JP Duminy is facing a significant spell out of action as he requires surgery on an injury to his right shoulder.
The 34-year-old left-hand bat and off-spinner will definitely miss the upcoming limited-overs tour of Australia, as well as the inaugural Mzansi Super League in his homeland, in which he was scheduled to be the marquee players for the Cape Town T20 franchise.
South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee told the official International Cricket Council website: "JP aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe.
"The injury will require surgical management, thus ruling him out of the immediate tour of Australia and the upcoming MSL.
"At the moment we can't say how long he will be out for, that will be dependent on the results from the surgery."
Duminy, who ended his Test career just over a year ago after 46 caps, remains a key member of the Proteas' limited-overs set-up.
He is eight short of a double century of ODI appearances, while he has featured in 78 T20 internationals - with his batting average in both formats a touch over 37.
