Roar looking to kick on

Brisbane Roar are hoping their 2-1 win at Adelaide United can prove a turning point in an A-League season that has been inconsistent so far.

John Aloisi's side badly needed the tonic of three points after losing twice in front of their own fans within the space of five days just before Christmas.

Those 2-1 losses to Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory left them next to bottom in the A-League and emphasised their problems at Suncorp Stadium - they've lost four of their seven home games and only won once in Brisbane.

It's a better story away from home though, as they've won two and lost two, and defender Luke DeVere says the success against United was a significant one.

The Roar needed to put in a courageous second-half display after they lost skipper Matt McKay to a red card in first-half injury time.

"If you look at the way games have gone this season, we have been in better positions and not been able to finish it off. We spoke before the game that it was important to put a good performance in, but above all we wanted to win," said DeVere.

"The coach mentioned before the game that the team has winners and we need to find a way to get back into that groove. Winning is a habit and hopefully we can now springboard into the second half of the season."

The next two games, both at Suncorp Stadium, could indicate whether Brisbane have it in them to make the Finals Series.

They will take on Western Sydney, who will have just a four-day turnaround before their clash on Friday, and then defending champions Sydney FC who are eight points clear at the top of the table.

DeVere added: "We still have a few players out, but we have confidence in this squad knowing that anyone can go out there and do a job for our team. Everyone has to be ready to chip in and do their bit."

The Roar are 2.00 to beat Western Sydney, who are 2.00, with the draw 2.00.
