Bamford desperate to avoid more Leeds heartache
Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is determined to help the Yorkshire club seal promotion from the Championship but he says that nothing can be taken for granted in such a competitive division.
Leeds are top of the table, a point ahead of West Brom in the second automatic promotion position. Marcelo Bielsa's men have a seven-point cushion to third-placed Fulham as they bid to return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2003-04.
Bamford came through the youth system at Nottingham Forest before moving to Chelsea in January 2012. He failed to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge but had successful loan spells at MK Dons, Derby and Middlesbrough before signing for Boro permanently in 2017.
He joined Leeds in July 2018 and is the club's leading scorer in the Championship this season with 13 league goals.
Bamford says that the experience of missing out on automatic promotion and losing in the play-offs last season means there will be no complacency from Leeds this time around.
"We know what the Championship's like," he told the Daily Star. "Last year we were in a great position, then we just petered off, and that was a real disappointment.
"The Championship is about consistency, so it's never a forgone conclusion. We're quietly confident that we have the ability to do it, and we've learnt from our mistakes, but we've still got to prove it. Nothing's decided yet.
"To get a real go at the Premier League, this is a brilliant chance, so we're not letting anything get in the way of our focus."
Leeds are 1.005 to win the England Championship 2019/20.
The Whites are next in action on 21st June when they face Cardiff and are 1.72 to win the game with the Bluebirds 5.00 and the draw 3.60.
