Bielsa baffled by blunt Leeds
Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa says poor finishing is costing his Championship promotion-chasers dearly after Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to Luton.
The Whites sit top of the Championship standings with 75 points from 40 games but missed the opportunity to extend their lead over title rivals West Brom with a disappointing draw at home to relegation-threatened Luton.
Despite forcing 23 shots and having 15 corners, Leeds needed a second-half equaliser from Stuart Dallas to rescue a point and it has added to the nerves of the Elland Road faithful who crave a return to the Premier League.
We cannot ignore that the lack of efficiency was the weak point for our team.Marcelo Bielsa
Leeds have endured some tough times since being relegated from England's top-flight in 2004, spending three seasons in League One, but the arrival of Bielsa has steadied the ship.
Last season saw them miss out in the play-offs and after that near miss, they are unlikely to get a better chance of securing promotion to the Premier League as champions.
Bielsa was full of praise for Luton but was critical of his forward players, accusing them of having a "lack of efficiency".
"What Luton did was right," he said. "They played honest, they didn't foul, the referee didn't have an impact in the match. But what is true is that we had lots of chances to score and they had just one chance.
"The opponent had one chance to score and we needed 12 chances to score one goal. We played against a team who defended with all their players in the goal and we had 12 or 15 chances."
The Argentine added: "We allowed them to shoot just twice and that is something positive for us. But we cannot ignore that the lack of efficiency was the weak point for our team."
Leeds are 1.60 to return to winning ways in the Championship at Blackburn on Saturday, with Rovers are 5.50, while the draw is available at 4.10.
