Parker calls for Fulham focus
Scott Parker wants his Fulham team to be mentally right for the London derby against Brentford on Tuesday at Wembley which will decide promotion to the Premier League.
Fulham came through a nervy Championship play-off semi-final against Cardiff at Craven Cottage to progress 3-2 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 2-1 at home.
The Cottagers were under pressure as the Bluebirds bombarded them in the second half in a bid to force extra-time but Parker's side stood firm and were able to progress to set up an intriguing final against their local rivals.
"There's always points in football matches that have nothing to do with tactics, nothing to do with technique, and are all a mindset and an understanding of the moment," said Parker.
Curtis Nelson and Lee Tomlin twice put Cardiff in front, however, Neeskens Kebano's goal between those efforts eventually sealed the deal for Fulham.
In-form Kebano had to be substituted with an injury and could be a doubt for the final, alongside 26-goal Championship top goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, who missed both legs of the semi-final.
The pair would be key absentees for Fulham, who lost 1-0 and 2-0 against Brentford in a regular season where the teams finished together on 81 points in third and fourth spot just two points off the automatic promotion pace.
The Bees claimed third spot due to their superior goal difference and Parker knows it will be a tough encounter against Thomas Frank's side, who saw off Swansea in their play-off semi-final.
"Brentford are a very good side, we're playing against a very good side and we understand that," added the former England international.
Fulham are 2.50 to be promoted from the England Championship 2019/20 and Brentford are 1.53.
Brentford are 2.10 to win in 90 minutes at Wembley on Tuesday with Fulham 3.80 and the draw is available at 3.20.
