White can perform at highest level - Cooper

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has tipped on-loan centre-back Ben White to have an "unbelievable career" and he hopes it will be with the Yorkshire giants.

White has been a sensation during his temporary spell with Leeds from Brighton, helping Marcelo Bielsa's side reach the top of the Championship and within touching distance of a return to the Premier League.

Some had questioned the wisdom in selling Pontus Jansson to Brentford last summer, although White has seamlessly replaced the robust Swede with aplomb to such an extent the Elland Road outfit have won their last five Championship matches without conceding.

Leeds have easily the best defensive record in the Championship, shipping only 30 goals, and White has been an ever-present in their 37 matches which is another tick in the box of the 22-year-old, who has been able to withstand the gruelling demands of England's second tier.

White, who has been working his way up the EFL with loan spells at Newport in League Two and League One side Peterborough, is strong defensively but can also play out from the back which led Bielsa to temporarily use him as a short-term midfield replacement for Kalvin Phillips when he was suspended.

Defensive partner Cooper has clearly been impressed and is keeping his fingers crossed he could remain with Leeds beyond the end of the season.

"He’s such an intelligent defender and I think he is going to go on to have an unbelievable career - hopefully that can be with Leeds United," Cooper told Sky Sports.

"He plays with such an old head on his shoulders. He can definitely do it at this level and probably will at the highest level as well."

England are 6.00 to win Euro 2021 and Sweden are 126.00.
