Henderson stands by United rival
Manchester United's Dean Henderson has defended fellow goalkeeper David De Gea, claiming "fans have to remember what he's done for the last nine years".
Henderson signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in 2015 but is yet to make an appearance for the club, having been loaned out to the likes of Stockport County, Shrewsbury Town and, most recently, Sheffield United.
The Englishman caught the eye of Premier League followers this season, though, keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets in 36 league fixtures in 2019/20 to help Sheffield United achieve a ninth-placed finish in their first season back in the top flight.
And after Spaniard De Gea, who has been at Old Trafford since 2011, came under increasing scrutiny for a collection of below-par performances in 2019/20, there has been speculation Henderson could assume the number one role.
But while the former Blades player claims he would like to have a career at United like De Gea's, he believes the Spaniard deserves another chance.
Speaking to Metro, Henderson said: "The fans have to remember what he's done for the last nine years, he's been phenomenal.
"He's probably been the best player at Manchester United for that time period - he should get another opportunity.
"I'm a young lad, I'm working hard. I'm a fan of the club and I want to play for them - hopefully I have a career at Man United like David De Gea has."
Meanwhile, Man Utd are 1.18 to beat FC Copenhagen, who are 15.00 to win with the draw 7.00 in their Europa League quarter-final clash on Monday.
