Lonergan blown away by Alisson
Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Lonergan has hailed the Reds' number one stopper Alisson Becker as the best around.
Brazilian Alisson, who started his career in his homeland with Internacional, has shone for the Anfield club since joining Jurgen Klopp's men from Roma for £66.8million in 2018.
Alisson played a key role in Liverpool’s Champions League triumph last term and his performances this season have helped the Reds build a 25-point lead over defending champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool have dropped just five points from their opening 29 league games, with Alisson keeping ten clean sheets in 20 appearances and conceding just 11 goals.
The Reds are within touching distance of claiming their first title in three decades and Lonergan believes that Alisson is a big reason for their recent success.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Lonergan, who has spent this season alongside the Brazilian in Liverpool’s goalkeeping set-up, said: "Me and Kirky [Chris Kirkland] speak about him with other goalkeepers and I say ‘However good you think he is, he is better than that’
"You watch him on a Saturday or in the Champions League and you think he is brilliant, but there’s just so much more to it than that. He’s technically the best."
Longergan added: "Everything he does is the best but his mentality and his sort of calmness... I can’t put into words how good he is. It’s just a joy to be part of the squad that he’s involved in."
Since making his international debut in 2015, Alisson has made 44 caps for Brazil who are 7.50 favourites for the 2022 World Cup.
