Nemanja Matic says it is a "huge honour" to be part of this Manchester United squad and he is looking forward to helping the club succeed after penning a new contract until June 2023.

The Serbia international arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 in a deal worth around 40million euros and he has made 114 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring four goals in the process.

It did look like the midfielder could be heading for the exit door this summer as he was in and out of the starting XI under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he has managed to regain his regular starting spot.

Matic has looked impressive in the middle of the park, forming a good partnership alongside Paul Pogba, and the Serbian has been rewarded for his displays with a new three-year contract.

"I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club. As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honour," the midfielder told the club's official website.

"This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group.

"This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud."

United return to Premier League action on Thursday evening when they travel to relegation-threatened Aston Villa and the visitors are 1.33 to come away with the spoils, Villa are 8.50, while a draw is priced at 5.50.
