Pirlo hails champion Ronaldo
Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo has hailed his Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo a "real champion" after the forward grabbed both goals in Saturday's 2-0 win over Cagliari.
35-year-old Ronaldo has now scored an incredible 60 goals from just 69 appearances since his £88million switch from Real Madrid in 2018, including eight in five Serie A starts this season.
Nine games into the season, Juventus are currently in fifth place on 16 points having dropped points in draws with Roma, Crotone, Verona and Lazio.
The Italian champions will be looking to Ronaldo to guide them to another title and they started the game well against Cagliari with Ronaldo in full flight, they dominated possession for the first 45 minutes with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner bagging two goals in five minutes.
Speaking after the game, Pirlo had nothing but praise for Ronaldo, he said: "He is a great professional, as we already knew.
"He is a real champion and sets the example for everyone around him, both in the matches and in training."
The former Italian midfielder, who took over in Turin three months ago was delighted with the performance from his squad and hinted that there is more to come, he added: "The players enjoy this style of football. When we have possession we have to pin the opposition back.
"We've been trying this pressing game since the first game but have not had much time to work on it. It is about winning back the ball as quickly as possible to keep the pressure."
Juventus are next in action on Wednesday night when they host Ferencvarosi TC in the Champions League.
The Bianconeri are 1.12 for the win, the Hungarians are 21.00 and the draw is priced at 8.50.
