Rose calls for Gladbach courage
Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose has urged his team to "play with courage" when they take on Manchester City in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Rose, who has been in charge at Gladbach since 2019, is set to join Borussia Dortmund for the start of the 2021-22 season, but his side are still involved in the DFB-Pokal and Champions League and are on the fringes of a top-five berth in the Bundesliga.
We need to play with courage and defend with passion.Marco Rose
Gladbach finished second in Group B, which featured a tough combination of Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan, in the Champions League and are considered underdogs in their clash with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City this week.
City's 1-0 defeat of Arsenal at the weekend made it 18 successive victories and they will be determined to better their performance in the Champions League last season, when they were knocked out by Lyon in the quarter-finals.
But Gladbach's Rose has called on his side to try and stop City monopolising possession and play with confidence in the first leg
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Rose said: "I'm thrilled that the lads get to play in a game like this. I hope when they go to bed tonight, they think about how they felt in Madrid when we qualified.
"If there is something that Manchester City don't like, then it's not having the ball. We need to play with courage and defend with passion. I have a team that is absolutely capable of that."
Gladbach are 10.00 to beat City in Budapest on Wednesday evening, with the draw 5.25 and a win for the visitors 1.30.
