Anatola set for Queensland
Anatola looks to be heading to the Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast following an impressive win at Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
Anatola set a 1200m course record to take out the benchmark 85 handicap and a trip to Queensland for a step up in class is now on the cards.
The 1200 is the right distance and she is a good mare full stop.Mark Newnham
Trained by Mark Newnham, Anatola was parked outside the leader Handfast with jockey Josh Parr pushing her to the front at the 250m-mark.
From there it was race over with the mare beating Test The World by 2-1/2 lengths in a record 1:08.03s.
The previous standard was 1:08.06 set in August last year by Deploy, who was also ridden by Parr, and Newnham paid tribute to his jockey after the race.
"That's why I put him on. I just tell him to go fast," Newnham said. "The conditions suited her today. The 1200 is the right distance and she is a good mare full stop.
"The Silk Stocking is on at the Gold Coast in two weeks and that looks like a nice race for her to get some black-type."
It also looks set to be her last season of racing, so there is even more reason to head to Queensland.
Raced by her breeder George Altomonte, Anatola is by More Than Ready out of Wager, who was runner-up in three Group One races as a two-year-old.
"This will probably be her last season of racing and like all breeders I of course want to get black-type for her," Altomonte said. "She is extremely well-bred on her dam's side."
Meanwhile In Her Time is 1000.00 on a win and each way bet to win the Stradbroke Handicap in June with Care To Think 9.00 and Clearly Innocent priced at 1000.00.
