Ulster wing Craig Gilroy is aiming for a recall to the Ireland squad for the Six Nations after recovering from injury.

Despite a poor all-round display from the province against Connacht at the weekend, where no one particularly impressed, he has been in fine form since returning from a back issue.

The 26-year-old did manage to find the try-line in Galway to continue his excellent scoring run having touched down four times in the previous six games.

With Joe Schmidt due to name his squad for the annual international competition in January, Gilroy hopes to do enough to force his way in.

"It's good to get my hands on the ball and get back to 100 per cent," he said. "I feel sharp and feeling fit which is good after missing the start of the season due to injury.

"Even when I came back for the game over in South Africa, I maybe felt a wee bit off the mark and it felt like I hadn't played in a while.

"The last few games have been good and I've got my hands on the ball. I'm playing in a good team, in a winning team, which has an exciting backline and my main goal was to get back fit and stay injury-free.

"I have plenty more goals and aspirations with Ulster and Ireland. If I can get my head down and keep going well for Ulster, hopefully I can put my hand up again for Irish selection."

Ireland are 1.28 to win the 2018 Six Nations outright, while England can be backed at 4.33, France at 501.00 and Scotland at 15.00.
