49ers embrace role of spoiler
The San Francisco 49ers will look to surprise the play-off bound Jacksonville Jaguars this week when the two sides meet at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
The Niners have been a different team since Jimmy Garoppolo took over under center and the second round pick given up to the New England Patriots appears, at least on the surface, to have been an absolute bargain.
Garoppolo was impressively cool and in command in the two-minute drill against the Titans as San Francisco defeated Tennessee 25-23 last week.
The win dented the post-season hopes of the Titans who find themselves tied with the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens in the chase for Wild Cards in the AFC.
Garoppolo completed 31-of-43 for 381 yards and a touchdown on the day and now faces the stingiest defense in the NFL.
Jacksonville, 4.33 to win the AFC, has allowed only 14.9 points per game and if Garoppolo prevails it is fair to say that a star will have been born. A long-term deal for the signal-caller now appears to be the next item on the agenda for the 49ers.
Meanwhile atop the NFC West Division the Los Angeles Rams can clinch the title when they travel to the Nissan Stadium Nashville to take on the Titans.
The Rams utterly demolished the Seahawks 42-7 in Seattle last week in a game that had the feeling of a changing of the guard.
Jared Goff is now playing like the first overall pick in the draft that he was and with excellent skill players and a solid defense,
LA is a legitimate threat to make a Super Bowl run.
The Jaguars are 10.00 to win the Super Bowl next year with the Rams 1213.00 and the Patriots priced at 1.33.
