Bills visit the Chargers in LA
The Buffalo Bills enter the weekend still in a playoff place in the American Football Conference, but the losers of two straight to fall to 5-4 on the season.
The Bills face an LA side that has also lost two in a row and has one once at home all season. Buffalo arrives in town after being crushed at home by the New Orleans Saints.
Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara each rushed for over 100 yards for the visitors to Orchard Park as the Saints rumbled for a combined 298 yards on 48 carries.
Curiously despite the 47-10 loss being squarely on the shoulders on the Bills defense, Buffalo has elected to switch quarterbacks and replace Tyros Taylor with Nathan Peterman. A rookie out of Pittsburgh, Peterman lasted to the fifth round in the Draft earlier in the year despite a number of experts projection that the youngster had considerable potential.
Peterman replaced Taylor in the loss to New Orleans and was a credible 7-of-10 for 79 yards and one touchdown.
It will be interesting to see what the former Panther does against the Chargers, who somewhat ironically are last in the league against the rush rather than the pass. That stat only tells half the story as LA has improved their run defense in recent weeks after a truly atrocious start, but still must face LeSean McCoy this week.
A strong running game should give Peterman more time if it can keep the Chargers pass rush off balance. With games against the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots to follow, the Bills really need this game if they are to continue to hope that they can make the playoffs.
The Bills are 126.00 to win the Super Bowl and the Chargers are priced at 21.00.
