Raiders desperate for boost
The winless Oakland Raiders make the long trip to South Florida this week to play the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 of the NFL campaign.
The controversial decision to trade Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears is going to hang over the organisation for the entire season and especially as long as Oakland continue to lose.
The opening week defeat to the Los Angeles Rams was followed by a 20-19 setback against the Broncos in Denver this past weekend. Down 19-7 with 5:25 to go in the third quarter, the Broncos scored 13 unanswered points to secure their second consecutive victory to start the year.
While the Raiders are in South Florida, Denver also hit the road to the east coast as they play the Ravens in Baltimore. Free agent signing Case Keenum completed 19-of-35 for 222 yards against Oakland and, while the former Minnesota Viking was picked off once, it was enough to overcome a 29-of-32 performance from the Raiders' Derek Carr.
Meanwhile, over in Kansas City, the early story of the year in the NFL is the play of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The former Texas Tech star has tossed 10 touchdowns in the first two games of the season and made the Chiefs, 1213.00 to win Super Bowl LIII, look like geniuses for moving up in the 2017 NFL Draft to take the Red Raider. Somewhat ironic then, given all the moves the Buffalo Bills made in the 2018 Draft to get their franchise quarterback in Josh Allen, that it was the Bills who traded out of the 10th spot in the first round to allow the Chiefs to select Mahomes.
