Raiders visit Chiefs at Arrowhead
It's a classic old AFL match-up this weekend when the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs clash at Arrowhead Stadium with the AFC West Division lead on the line.
The Chiefs jumped out to a 5-0 start to the campaign and appeared a lock for the post-season as the Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos all floundered.
Instead Kansas City has slumped badly, while Oakland and LA have got their act together enough to leave all three teams with a 6-6 record with four games remaining.
The Chiefs have lost four in a row with consecutive defeats to the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Buffalo Bills and last week against the New York Jets.
Quarterback Alex Smith completed 19-of-33 for 366 yards and four touchdowns on the day at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, but it was not enough as the Jets rallied for the win 38-31.
Ill-discipline and a number of penalties were part of the problem for Kansas City who look to be unravelling.
The Chiefs entertain the Chargers next week, welcome in the Miami Dolphins the day before Christmas and then finish off the regular season at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High against the Broncos.
On paper Oakland would appear to have a tougher run-in with three of their remaining four on the road.
The Raiders host the Dallas Cowboys in Northern California next week and then must travel to take on the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chargers.
Nor should LA be overlooked. The Chargers have recovered nicely from their 0-4 start and with defensive playmakers, this is a side that has won six of eight and pushed both New England and Jacksonville on the road before falling.
