Super Bowl rematch in Foxboro
The New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons meet on Sunday evening at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro for the first time since their epic encounter in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots lead the AFC East Division with a 4-2 record, a game ahead of the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins in the standings.
Curiously the Patriots are an unbeaten 3-0 on the road, but only 1-2 at home having lost to both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers.
Those two losses and wins over the New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, the latter three by a combined 15 points, would appear to indicate that New England are nowhere near their Super Bowl form of last season.
The Patriots are 1.66 for the win on Sunday, with Atlanta 2.30.
Whether the Bills or Dolphins can take advantage is, however, another story. The Patriots arrive home after their 24-17 win over the Jets at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford NJ last weekend.
Quarterback Tom Brady completed 20-of-38 for 257 yards and a couple of touchdowns while being picked off once. It was Brady's 187th regular season victory to establish the NFL record and break a tie with Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.
Meanwhile the Falcons arrive in Foxboro with their own questions. A three-game winning streak to start the season featured unimpressive victories over the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions and it was not a surprise when Atlanta stumbled against first Buffalo and then Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
At this point neither the Falcons nor the Patriots would be considered a favourite to make the Super Bowl this year, but will be looking to pick it up the second half of the season.
The Falcons are 2.00 on receipt of a three-point spread against the Patriots.
