Bess in contention for a recall
England off-spinner Dom Bess is being considered for a recall for next week's fourth and final Test against India in Ahmedabad, accoridng to head coach Chris Silverwood.
Bess was left out of the XI for this week's day-night Test match because England's management expected their seam bowlers to pose a threat with the pink ball.
He's played an important part in helping us win games in the past and I'm sure he will do again in the future.Chris Silverwood
That proved to be a miscalculation as India's slow bowlers Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin shared 18 wickets in the match, propelling the home side to a ten-wicket victory inside two days.
England's best bowling performance came from part-time off-spinner Joe Root, who took 5-8 in the first innings, and coach Silverwood has confirmed that Bess is in their plans for the final game of the series.
The 23-year-old was England's leading wicket-taker in January's 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka, claiming 12 wickets in two games, and he started the India series with first-innings figures of 4-76 in the surprise 227-run victory in Chennai.
Asked about Bess's chance of making the 11 for Thursday's match, Silverwood said: "He's in contention. He was left out (of the team for the day-night Test) because of the potential movement we could have got out of the pink ball.
"From Bessy's point of view I wouldn't read too much into that. He's played an important part in helping us win games in the past and I'm sure he will do again in the future."
England are 3.75 to square the series with victory in the fourth Test and Bess is 3.60 to be their top first-innings bowler.
