G2 and Spirit lock horns
G2 and Spirit renew rivalries on Sunday, with qualification for BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021 on the line.
Both teams arrive at this pivotal match-up in good form, though Spirit have been on a rampage in recent months. The Russian squad have won 16 of their last 19 best of three matches, with all of those defeats coming at the hands of Gambit, the world's best team.
Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov's men have been blessed with a smooth passage to this point, brushing aside Extra Salt in their opening game. Dropping the first map against Dignitas on Friday, they proceeded to decimate the Swedes in two subsequent maps to take the series.
Spirit are perhaps the most dangerous team in CS:GO at present and G2 have a big task on their hands. The French squad had looked flat since the addition of Nikola "NiKo" Kovac, but they've somewhat turned around their fortunes at this tournament. Defeating Endpoint in the round of 16, they showed tenacity to beat OG on Friday.
Overcoming quadruple overtime to win OG's map choice, they then lost their map choice of Dust2 16-3. Not to be deterred, however, they took the series 16-12 on Inferno and it's that type of gutsy performance we've been waiting to see from G2.
You can make a case for both sides, but Spirit is the consistent force at present and given G2's recent inconsistencies, they're a difficult team to trust. Regardless, we're set up for an enthralling match between two very classy sides.
G2 are 2.37 to defeat Team Spirit, who can be backed at 1.53.
