Milicic will be patient with new boy

Macarthur FC say they will not rush new striker Apostolos Giannou into the first team and will only hand him his debut when he is ready.

The Bulls impressed in their inaugural A-League campaign in 2020/21 and are looking to go even deeper into finals in the season ahead.

Quality addition

Giannou has proven his talent in the past but has had a difficult couple of seasons in Greece where he struggled to force his way into the OFI Crete starting line-up.

The 32-year-old has not played for the Socceroos since 2019 and it sounds as though the striker needs to fall back in love with the game and regain some confidence.

But Bulls coach Ante Milicic is in no doubt the striker can do just that with his team.

"Our main thing is that he gets back to enjoying football," Milicic told reporters. "He's had a difficult couple of years, he needs those match minutes, he's got quality. He's still got a lot of ambition with his career.

"We won't put a lot of pressure on him, because he has his own high expectations."

Glory setback

Giannou could have been in line to make his debut and get some valuable minutes against Perth Glory on Wednesday night but unfortunately the game has been postponed.

Glory have been able to call the game off after a number of their players became unwell and Giannou will have to wait for his first appearance for his new club.

The next scheduled Bulls game is against Wellington Phoenix on 6th February which will allowed Giannou more time to build up his fitness.
