Two from two for Popa

Tony Popovic was delighted with Melbourne Victory's performance as they picked up another three points and clean sheet against Brisbane Roar.

Victory are priced at 3.50 to win the 2021/22 A-League grand final and have got the campaign off to the perfect start.

Bouncing back in style

Victory finished with the wooden spoon last season but new coach Popovic already looks to have turned the tables as they have got the campaign off to a flyer.

A Kai Trewin own-goal and further strikes from Nick D'Agostino and Ben Folami wrapped up a 3-0 win to leave Popovic a happy man.

The fact it is the first time they have kept back-to-back clean sheets in almost three years, also pleased him.

"I didn't know that stat but the players will draw a lot of confidence from that," Popovic said after the game. "As a team we defended very well and we pressed very well.

"They're a mobile team, they played the back three and we were very aggressive in our press.

"At times that left us one-on-one at the back but we felt that gave us more opportunity to create chances and control the game."

Moon frustrated

Meanwhile Brisbane counterpart Warren Moon was frustrated with the errors from his side that led to the goals, but says they will learn.

"The first goal was really disappointing from our perspective and the second goal was a clear error," Moon said. "We've got young players that will have to learn from these types of games and moments."
