Paul Pogba has picked up an injury

Manchester United are waiting to discover the extent of a thigh injury that forced midfielder Paul Pogba to withdraw from the France squad on Monday.

Pogba was due to feature in Les Bleus' 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Finland, but he has returned to his club, who are 12122.00 to win the Premier League this season and 1001.00 to finish in the top four.

Suspension still running

The 28-year-old is suspended for United's next league fixture, away to Watford on November 20th, as he must complete a three-match ban for his red card in last month's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils may have to cope without the France World Cup winner for longer than that, however, depending on the severity of Pogba's injury, as they bid to recover from a tricky run of results.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have lost four of their last six league matches, including a 2-0 home derby defeat to Manchester City last weekend, while they needed a late equaliser from Cristiano Ronaldo to earn a 2-2 draw at Atalanta on matchday four of the Champions League.

Season a struggle for Pogba

Pogba rejoined United in 2016 after four successful years with Juventus, but he has had a limited impact this season, failing to score in nine league appearances and picking up four bookings, as well as his dismissal against Liverpool.

After the trip to Watford, sixth-placed United face two of the teams above them in the table as they play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal at Old Trafford.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Paul Pogba has been released from the French national team following a thigh muscle injury sustained in training. He will return to Manchester for treatment and further evaluation."
