Ajer hints at Bhoys departure
Norwegian defender Kristoffer Ajer has hinted he could leave Celtic this summer amid reported interest from the Premier League.
The Bhoys are priced at 2.50 to regain the Scottish Premiership title next season after their run of nine-successive league championships was ended in emphatic fashion by Old Firm rivals Rangers (1.50) this term.
I have one year left of the contract and that is what I am focused on, but something might possibly happen this summer.Kristoffer Ajer
A summer of upheaval is expected at Parkhead, with the club yet to appoint a permanent successor to manager Neil Lennon, who left his position back in February.
Several first-team regulars are also expected to depart the club this summer, including Norway international Ajer, who has made nearly 200 appearances since his arrival back in 2016.
Ajer has just one year remaining on his current contract in Glasgow and he has been attracting interest from the Premier League, with Newcastle United and newly-promoted Norwich City both said to be interested.
The 23-year-old has now hinted that his future could lie away from Celtic, although he has also indicated that he would be willing to see out the remainder of his contract with the Scottish giants.
Speaking to a Norwegian press conference, Ajer said: "There are of course a lot of rumours, but as of right now there are only rumours.
"I have one year left of the contract and that is what I am focused on, but of course, something might possibly happen this summer.
"I will adhere to that and stay loyal to the club, but in order for both me and the club to have the best possible starting point (for negotiations), it is probably for the best that something should happen this year."
Ajer is not the only Celtic defender said to be considering his future, as fellow centre-back Jack Hendry, who spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Belgian club Oostende, could also be on the move.
