Celtic's rebuilding process will take time

Celtic legend Stiliyan Petrov says it will take time for new manager Ange Postecoglou to get the team firing on all cylinders.

After a strong start to the season, Celtic have lost their last four away matches in all competitions and they are 2.75 to regain the Scottish Premiership title from 1.40 champions Rangers.

Troubles on the road

One of those away defeats was a 1-0 loss to their Old Firm rivals at Ibrox while they went down 4-3 to Real Betis in their opening game of the Europa League group stage before a shock 1-0 Premiership reverse at Livingston last weekend.

Former Australia national team coach Postecoglou will be hoping to get back on track in Thursday's League Cup tie at home to Raith Rovers which is followed by further home games against Dundee United in the league and Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

Celtic are sixth in the table after six matches of the Premiership campaign, six points off leaders Rangers, but Petrov, who enjoyed great success at the club between 1999 and 2006 and won 105 international caps for Bulgaria, believes supporters must be patient as Postecoglou's plans take shape.

New boss needs time

Speaking to Sky Sports, Petrov said: "It's just a transition period they have to go through. Ange is finding it very difficult to get his best team out on the pitch.

"He always stresses how he loves going forward and loves scoring goals but they have got a lot of new players at the back and they need time to gel.

"He is quite calm and he knows the process will take time."
