Conte praises balanced Inter

Antonio Conte believes his Inter Milan side have found a better balance after propelling themselves to the top of the Serie A standings.

Inter, who welcome Genoa to the San Siro in their latest showdown on Sunday, are four points clear at the summit from city rivals AC Milan, with perennial champions Juventus eight points off the pace, albeit with a game in hand on the two teams above them.

We have found a balance with a good mix of aggression and waiting. We have become more compact.

Conte's men suffered a slow start with only three wins in their opening seven fixtures, however, their only defeat since then came in early January away to Sampdoria.

Inter have won five of their last six league games, a run which includes telling triumphs over top-six outfits Juventus, Milan and Lazio, and crucially, Conte has managed to tighten up the defence with five clean sheets in those fixtures.

That's a big change from earlier in the season when they had three clean sheets in their opening 17 matches, although one of those did come in the reverse fixture in a 2-0 win at Genoa.

The form of attackers Romelu Lukaku and Lautauro Martinez means Inter are always likely to be a threat in the final third and they start this round of fixtures with the best attack in Serie A (57) goals, but now Conte is more content overall with the equilibrium between going forward and defending.

"In the first part of the championship, we created a lot, but we were a bit exposed and we conceded too many goals," Conte told Corriere Della Sera. "Now there is a good balance and everyone participates in the two phases.

"We have found a balance with a good mix of aggression and waiting. We have become more compact."

Inter are 1.16 to beat Genoa, with the draw 7.00, while the Nerazzurri are 1.00 to win Serie A this season.
