Matsuyama eyeing big finish at East Lake
Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama says he is determined to end the season on a high at this week's Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
A staggered-scoring system based on players' FedEx Cup positions is being used for this event, so 101.00 Matsuyama will start nine shots behind 5.00 chance Patrick Cantlay. Spain's Jon Rahm is 4.50 to win the tournament and Bryson DeChambeau 6.00.
Eight in a row at East Lake
Despite that hefty deficit, the Japanese star is looking forward to his week at East Lake Golf Club and is proud to be extending his run of Tour Championship appearances to eight since making his debut in 2014.
Only Dustin Johnson, with 13, has racked up more consecutive outings at the event.
To be able to play my best golf here will be a perfect end to the season.Hideki Matsuyama
The highlight of Matsuyama's season, and his career, was undoubtedly April's triumph at the Masters at Augusta, where he finished one shot ahead of Will Zalatoris to claim his maiden Major title.
The 29-year-old, whose best finish in the season-ending FedEx Cup was eighth place in 2017, starts his campaign in Atlanta alongside Canada's Corey Conners on Thursday.
Matsuyama satisfied with season
Reflecting on his season, Matsuyama told reporters: "Winning The Masters and making it here to East Lake are probably the two things I'm most happy about.
"It's always a goal of mine to get to the Tour Championship, and being able to make it here from my first year [in 2014] to now my eighth straight time makes me extremely happy. And to be able to play my best golf here will be a perfect end to the season."
