Bowman bullish about Profiteer
Hugh Bowman is confident leading Golden Slipper Stakes contender Profiteer can bounce back from his last-start second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes.
Bowman has partnered the Mick Price and Michael Kent jr-trained colt in his past two races and will be bidding for back-to-back feature titles on Saturday after impressively guiding Mugatoo to victory in the $5 million All-Star Mile last weekend.
Bowman believes Profiteer, winner of the $2 million Inglis Millennium last month, has improved considerably since finishing second to the reopposing Anamoe in the Todman and is of the opinion the son of Capitalist will be hard to beat on Saturday.
"I'm very confident in his chances," Bowman said on Racing.com's After The Last. "My thoughts from his last run were that I would have liked to have won obviously but I can see the horse improving significantly from that.
"He's a month between runs, hadn't had a trial, it was his first go at 1200 metres.
"My biggest question mark with Profiteer after the Inglis Millennium race was that his brilliant speed was something that can't be denied, but I had a question mark over him running 1200 metres. But I think he proved the other day that he'll have no problem with that."
Profiteer, who won his two starts before the Todman by a combined eight lengths, is 3.50 to land Saturday's $3.5 million Group 1.
Connections of Artorius, who is available at 1000.00, and Rocket Tiger, 51.00, both paid the $150,000 late entry fee on Monday to secure their place in the line up.
