Eustace expecting historic performance Down Under
Dave Eustace believes Explosive Jack will be the horse to beat as he attempts to rewrite the history books once again in Saturday's Group 1 South Australian Derby at Morphettville.
The three-year-old colt became the first horse in history to add the Group 1 ATC Derby in Sydney last month to his Listed Tasmanian Derby victory in February.
Dave Eustace, who trains in partnership with Ciaron Maher, says his charge is ready to turn it on again in Adelaide this weekend as he bids for his fifth win in eight starts.
"Explosive Jack worked out here this morning and worked very well. He galloped at Werribee last Saturday and here again today and he's had some time at the beach and he's spot-on," Eustace said.
"He will be the horse to beat I would imagine. I think he's held his form very well."
The stable will have two derby runners with the promising Let's Karaka Deel also taking his place.
Let's Karaka Deel has raced only twice this campaign, finishing second on each occasion, firstly in the Mornington Guineas on 20th March and then in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas on 10th April.
Eustace said the stable decided against travelling to Adelaide for the Group 3 Chairman's Stakes at Morphettville on 24th April.
"He's going well but needs to step up," Eustace added. "We were keen to not have to travel him twice, but he doesn't need over-racing."
Explosive Jack is priced at 4.00 to claim the spoils in Saturday's Group 1, while Let's Karaka Deel can be backed at 13.00.
