Quick Thinker to back-up in Sydney Cup
The Sydney Cup campaign of Quick Thinker is back on track after he rebounded to form with a superior staying performance in the Group 2 Chairman's Quality at Randwick on Saturday.
In a furiously run race, which left many scrambling to keep up with the pace set by Sacramento, Quick Thinker just held off the fast-finishing Rondinella to win by a head.
The OTI Racing-owned four-year-old had a Melbourne Cup campaign aborted after a disappointing two-start spring and was well beaten on his last start in the Group 3 NE Manion Cup.
However, the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman trainee relished the quick tempo, soft track conditions, and the step up to beyond a mile and a half for the first time at Randwick.
"Obviously the track was quite testing. They were under the pump a fair way out there and he was still travelling quite well," Forsman said. "Definitely the track conditions have played into his hands.
"He had a really searching gallop on Tuesday morning and he had a good blow after it. His gallop on Thursday was really good, and I thought that work gave us a bit of confidence going into it."
Forsman confirmed Quick Thinker would back up in the Group 1 Sydney Cup at Randwick next Saturday, and he is available at 23.00 to claim the spoils.
Realm Of Flowers and Favorite Moon are both expected to challenge for victory at 6.00 and 6.50 respectively, while Miami Bound is a 13.00 chance.
