Addeybb drops down at Goodwood

William Haggas' Addeybb could be dropped to Listed company for the first time in over a year at Goodwood next Wednesday.

The multiple Group 1 winner is putting the final touches to the preparation ahead for the defence of his Champion Stakes crown at Ascot next month, with Addeybb 7.00 to win the race for the second season running.

Let's hope he can be in for a profitable autumn.

Haggas holds Addeybb hope

The Haggas-trained seven-year-old has not been seen since finishing second to St Mark's Basilica in the Coral-Eclipse in July, having previously won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia for the second time earlier in the year, a fourth top-level success.

The Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum-owned gelding missed summer engagements in the Juddmonte International and in the Irish Champion Stakes last weekend.

Plans changing for Haggas

He had been in line for a return in the Doonside Cup at Ayr - which he was successful in last year - or the Legacy Cup at Newbury this weekend, but he was not declared for either race on Thursday.

He could instead run in the Foundation Stakes on the South Downs next week, before his title defence on Champions Day, where he could face the likes of St Mark's Basilica, Mishriff and last year's second, Skalleti, in a stellar clash at Ascot.

Haggas said: "He's fine at the moment and has been working well. He won't be going to Ayr as it's good to firm there at the moment."

He added: "He's got an entry at Goodwood on Wednesday and officials have told me they've got some rain arriving at the weekend, so let's hope they get it.

"Let's hope he can be in for a profitable autumn."
