Suroor expects Benbatl improvement

Benbatl has been a globetrotting star for Saeed bin Suroor but faces a new test when he runs in the Celebration Mile on Saturday.

The seven-year-old is priced at 3.25 to win Goodwood's feature race on Saturday, with Chindit at 4.20 and Mutasaabeq at 5.50.

Unique test for globe-trotter

The seven-year-old entire has competed in five different countries all over the world from Germany to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East and Australia.

However, he has yet to run at Goodwood, the unique Sussex Downs course where he was a late non-runner 12 months ago.

He gets his chance to run in the Celebration Mile on his return from an absence of 337 days under champion jockey Oisin Murphy, who has won on him on more occasions than any other rider.

Murphy inflicted Benbatl's most recent defeat when partnering Kameko to win last year's Joel Stakes with the Godolphin runner a length back in third.

However, he is back aboard on the three-time Group 1 winner who has amassed more than £5.8 million in prize-money and competed against some of the best horses in the world in recent seasons.

Three-year-olds Chindit, Mutasaabeq and Perotto are in opposition, while 2019 winner Duke Of Hazzard is also in the line-up.

Ready to get started

Bin Suroor said: "Benbatl had a nice break earlier in the season and we decided not to take him out to Dubai because he had a hard season last year.

"This looks a good race for him over a trip that suits. He has been going well at home and is ready to get his campaign started, although we expect him to come on for his first run in almost a year."
