Dhabab seeks Mill Reef glory
The form of the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket took a major boost after Native Trail's Group 1 success last weekend, and Dhabab looks to further strengthen it with victory in the Mill Reef Stakes on Saturday.
Dhabab, who is 3.75 to win the Mill Reef at Newbury, has not been seen since finishing a length-and-a-half behind Native Trail, who has subsequently gone on to win the National Stakes, while Newmarket second Masekela took Listed honours at Newbury on his only start since.
Now Dhabab is handed his chance for a Group-race win, it will be his third run at the grade as he was sixth when sent off favourite in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
He is dropping down to six furlongs where he will look to give the John Gosden stable a second success in the race, three years on from the victory of Kessaar. This race has been the launchpad of the careers of Ribchester and Harry Angel in recent years.
Gosden, who trains with son Thady, said: "He's back in trip after running very well to be third in the Superlative Stakes at the July meeting and that form is working out well. We've freshened him up at home since and we're hopeful of a bold run."
Among his opposition is Super Sprint winner Gubbass, who is back in Group 2 level after finishing fifth in the Prix Morny last time out.
Gis A Sub was second in the Gimcrack last time out and would have a chance on that form, while Maglev and Molecomb Stakes winner Fearby are other leading contenders.
