Tigers sign Amone for 2021
West Tigers coach Michael Maguire has saluted the capture of Tom Amone and says the forward can be a big hit in the 2021 NRL season.
The 24-year-old has been on the look-out for a new club following his release from South Sydney Rabbitohs at the end of last season, and the Tigers have handed him a lifeline.
He managed just nine senior games for the bunnies over the last two seasons, and his last appearance came in round six of the 2020 season.
Despite his limited amount of action, Maguire is convinced the Tigers have made a shrewd addition to their ranks.
"Tom has shown he has what it takes to make it at the NRL level so we're very pleased to have secured his services for the season ahead," Maguire said after the deal was announced.
"Having overcome some adversity, Tom has worked hard to be ready for the season ahead and I'm looking forward to him adding further to our forward pack this year."
Amone has initially penned a one-year deal and Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has also hailed the capture.
"Tom's experience and capabilities at the NRL level make him an excellent addition to our squad at this point of the year and we're delighted to welcome him on board," Pascoe said.
"Tom has shown an enthusiasm and desire to contribute at this club right away and we're looking forward to watching him do that in the year ahead."
Wests Tigers open the season against the Raiders in Canberra on 14th March and Amone will be doing all he can to be involved.
The Tigers are priced at 101.00 to win the NRL grand final.
