Walters expects Staggs to stay
Broncos coach Kevin Walters is expecting developments regards the future of Kotoni Staggs and is confident he will stay with Brisbane.
The future of the star centre has yet to be sorted out and at one point it looked as though he could agree a big-money deal with the Gold Coast Titans.
However that deal is now off the table and the Broncos are in a strong position to get him tied down to a new deal.
The contract talks are also taking place amid an investigation from the NRL integrity unit following an off-field incident involving the 22-year-old.
The Broncos face the Eels this weekend while Staggs remains out with a knee injury.
"We're aware of the situation with the NRL integrity unit and we will leave it in their safe hands," Walters said. "I won't make any more comment than that, we are certainly aware of the situation and that it is being investigated by the NRL.
"We are up here to play against the Eels, Kotoni is not here but we are supporting him, like we would all our players in this situation."
Despite the investigation, Walters says it will have no impact on the contract talks.
"It won't affect anything going forward," Walters said of the situation. "I expect (movement on the deal) in the next week or two.
"It is a big decision for Kotoni and the Broncos as well as whether he stays or goes but I'm very confident we will hang on to Kotoni, I can see him wearing a Broncos jersey next year."
Brisbane are 5.00 to beat the Eels.
The Broncos are 151.00 to win the NRL grand final.
