Another Bomber signs up
The good news keeps rolling in for Essendon after Kyle Langford became the latest young gun to commit his future to the Bombers.
Essendon fans have had to deal with speculation over the future of star players such as Adam Saad and Joe Daniher, who are both keen to leave the club, while Orazio Fantasia is another who could be on the move.
However they will be buoyed by the fact that a number of the younger players see a bright future for the Bombers and are keen to stay involved.
On Monday it was revealed that Andrew McGrath had signed up for another two years, and he has now been joined Langford, who will also stay until at least the end of 2022.
The midfielder was out of contract, but after a career-best season, he feels he can progress even further with the Bombers.
"I feel like I’m really starting to develop some continuity in my game, so I was pretty clear that staying with the Bombers was going to be the best thing for my football as I’m hungry to keep growing as player," he said.
"While it wasn’t the year we would’ve liked to have had as a team, I really believe we are on the right path to achieving on-field results under 'Truck' (coach Ben Rutten).
"We have a really hungry young group of players and I can't wait to get back to the club with the boys and commit to a pre-season of hard work, intensity and driving high standards to take this group forward to where we want to go."
Essendon are also hopeful that best-and-fairest winner Jordan Ridley will also pen a new four-year deal, with an announcement said to be imminent.
Meanwhile, Brisbane are 87/100 to beat Geelong in Saturday's Final Series clash, with the Cats 97/100.
