Buckley vows to strengthen
Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says the Magpies will be aggressive during the Trade Period after their premiership hopes came crashing down.
Collingwood were left in a state of shock as they were blown away by Geelong on Saturday night.
The 68-point loss will have hit them hard but Buckley will try not to dwell on the embarrassing defeat and will instead put focus on where they need to improve in 2021.
The NAB AFL Draft is one option but speaking in the aftermath of the Geelong defeat, Buckley said they will also be looking to trade as there is room to manoeuvre.
"We think we've got scope," Buckley said. "We've got to continue to get better, there's no stopping, no slowing down in that regard. We'll be as aggressive as we can be."
Buckley knows what areas need to be strengthened as well. The Pies coach is happy with his defence, but all other areas need to be bolstered if they are to be a stronger outfit in the new campaign.
Collingwood have no problems making the finals, but the lack of a premiership will sting and Buckley is keen to bring it home in the future. For that he needs the right players coming in.
"I know key forward is an area, but we still need to replenish our midfield and find a wave of guys that are going to come through there," he added.
"That might be a target area. Outside run, high forwards and wingers might be an area we have to look at.
"I think understanding yourself is the most important step you need to take before you work out what you need and we think we've got a pretty good handle on that."
