Daniher arrival key to Lions moving forward
Brisbane Lions are already looking to move on from their preliminary final heartbreak and hope to get Essendon's Joe Daniher on board.
The Lions have had another fantastic season, but have again fallen short in their push for the flag after losing to Geelong on Saturday night.
The Cats move on to a grand final showdown with the Richmond Tigers, while the Lions will lick their wounds and get ready to go again.
And coach Chris Fagan believes the arrival of Daniher will be a big factor in their pursuit of grand final glory.
The 26-year-old has told the Bombers he wants to leave and has named the Lions as his preferred destination, now the two clubs just need to hammer out a deal.
Daniher is a restricted free agent and talks have already taken place between the two clubs with a view to reaching an agreement that suits all.
Fagan has also spoken to the key forward, who is excited about the possibility of playing for the Lions over the next few seasons.
The Lions coach believes Daniher is a key player in his plans for the future, saying he can "play a really strong role moving forward" and there could be one or two other arrivals as well.
"We're obviously pretty keen to get Joe Daniher to our club, we think he can help," he said. "We're already in the business of improving for next year. We won't let the grass grow under our feet."
Daniher's recent injury problems mean the deal is far from straightforward with Essendon and Brisbane reported to be at loggerheads over his worth.
Richmond are 9/10 to win the grand final.
