North duo sign new deals
North Melbourne have secured the futures of Jack Mahony and Charlie Comben, who have both penned two-year contract extensions.
The duo will now remain with the Roos until the end of the 2023 AFL campaign at least and will get the chance to establish themselves in new head coach David Noble's plans.
Mahony made his AFL debut in Round 4 of the 2020 season and went on to make 10 appearances. It would have been more but he picked up a shoulder injury in Round 13 that curtailed his season.
He will be fit for the 2021 campaign and is looking forward to what it may bring.
"It’s very exciting. We’ve got about seven or eight new draftees and a whole heap of guys under 22, so it’s just exciting. Everyone’s just super keen to get into next year and there’s just a great vibe a the club at the moment," he said.
"For me it’s about getting fitter and stronger as a younger player, specifically as a small-forward I just want to be more damaging with my agility and pace and try to get on the scoreboard a bit more next year."
Comben has also had his injury problems and is now keen to put them behind him and stake a claim in 2021.
"I’m pretty stoked to sign for an extra two years," he said. "I’m really enjoying my time here so far and really excited to be a part of something big with a young, talented group."
North GM football Brady Rawlings is delighted to have secured both players and says keeping hold of young talent is the key to future success.
"Jack and Charlie join a host of young talent who have re-signed recently including Curtis Taylor, Bailey Scott, Tristan Xerri and Kyron Hayden, balanced out with the mature-age players we have at the club," he said.
"We’re excited about what we’re building here at Arden St and are looking forward to further developing our next crop of talent."
North are priced at 200/1 to win the AFL grand final.
