Port confirm Fantasia interest
Port Adelaide have confirmed that Orazio Fantasia is keen to join them and say they will work with Essendon in the hope of completing a trade.
The forward is keen to return to South Australia and spoke to both Port and the Adelaide Crows before making up his mind over who he would like to join.
The 25-year-old has now told the Bombers he would like to play for Port and negotiations will now begin between the two clubs.
Port general manager of football Chris Davies says they are hopeful of sorting a trade, but there are no guarantees as the situation could get complicated.
"We believe Port Adelaide is his club of choice if he was to leave Essendon and I think in fairness to Essendon here, because I know he’s a contracted player there, I think he’s had that conversation with Essendon," Davies told AFL Trade Radio.
"We know, where a player is contracted that the club he’s at right now hold a level of power so despite the fact that Orazio has said that his preference is to come to Port Adelaide, we know that realistically that doesn’t mean a great deal unless Essendon is willing to complete a trade.
"That will play out through the trade period and (Bombers list manager) Adrian (Dodoro) and Jason Cripps at our end will have to do some work in order to get that done but he has told us that his preference is to land at Port Adelaide."
Fantasia, who has kicked 111 goals during his 80-game career has one year remaining on his contract with the Bombers.
