Ratten puts new midfielder on Saints wish list
St Kilda coach Brett Ratten says a new midfielder is high on his wanted list as he looks to take the club on to the next level in 2021.
Saints have made great strides despite their season coming to an end with a 31-point loss to Richmond on Friday night, but Ratten says there is still more they can do.
Ratten is keen for Saints to 'put themselves out there' as they look to take the next step, and being active in the trade period is high on the agenda.
"We'll probably get a tougher draw and we might get some injuries, there'll be different challenges for our footy club next year," he said.
"You've got to put yourself out there. Do you want to be good or do you want to be great?
"We need to keep pushing the boundaries and sometimes we will fail, but we'll fail having a crack. We'll go for a few things in the trade period.
"It'd be good to get another midfielder in, that would really help us, and maybe pushing them more into the forward line so we could get some more goal-scoring power as well."
Ratten admits they fell short in a number of areas against the Tigers, but the loss of Paddy Ryder and Jake Carlisle had a huge impact on them.
The absence of injured ruckman Ryder in particular cost them dear.
"He's a great player, Paddy, and has been for a long time and we did miss him," Ratten added.
"If we could have won the centre bounces a bit more we would have got the ball our way and not exposed our backs."
