Suns claim third-straight victory
Last year's No.1 draft pick Matt Rowell was again Gold Coast's star as they beat Fremantle by 13 points for their third consecutive win.
The Suns came out on top after an arm-wrestle at Metricon Stadium, moving at least temporarily into second spot on the ladder.
They won 10.4 (64) to 8.3 (51), Rowell delivering a best-on-ground performance that included supplying two of their goals.
Playing just his fourth AFL game, he continued the red-hot start to his senior career and made his mark on the game in the opening seconds against dual Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe.
The young Sun went on to have 20 disposals and two goals, including a classy finish on his opposite left foot when the home side bagged five in a row in the second term.
Scores were level at three-quarter time before Stuart Dew's side pulled away thanks to a freakish Jack Lukosius goal from the boundary and another quick snap from Ben Ainsworth.
Gold Coast have won three of their first four games - the same number of victories they managed in the whole of last season.
Fremantle, yet to get off the mark in 2020, now have major concerns over the fitness of Fyfe after he injured his right hamstring late in the third quarter.
Both teams showed their goalkicking prowess - they managed 13 straight goals between them before Sam Day became the first player to fail in front of the big sticks when he hit the post early in the third term.
Fremantle are 13/20 to win their next game against Adelaide, who are 13/10.
The Dockers are 91/100 conceding a 7.5-points start.
