Suns star targets big 2021
Out-of-favour Gold Coast midfielder Will Brodie has returned to pre-season in the shape of his life as he attempts to force his way into the Suns side.
The 22-year-old started round one of the 2020 AFL season but that was it for the year and he is determined to play much more of a role in the 2021 campaign.
It meant a lot of hard work in the off-season, with running the main focus, and it appears to have paid off as he returned to training leaner and faster.
Brodie smashed the 2km time trial, taking 30 seconds off his personal best, in what is a very positive start for the player.
"I've never been a gifted aerobic runner," Brodie told AFL.com. "It's something that's always been on the list to work on.
"Over the off-season we targeted that and narrowed the focus to get it as good as possible. We came up with a plan and I cut four or five kilos off.
"We ran over the off-season heaps. It was the main focus for me. To come back and get a good result was good reward for that effort."
Brodie has managed just 20 appearances over four seasons with the Suns, but he still has time on his side to make a name for himself.
It may have been a frustrating time, but he hopes 2021 could be his year.
"I love it here. I haven't played a lot of games, but I feel as a player I've continued to develop and improve," he added. "Hopefully this will be my year."
The Suns are priced at 60/1 to win the AFL grand final.
