Young Kanga pens new deal
North Melbourne have secured the future of young defender Kyron Hayden, who has penned a one-year deal with the Kangaroos.
North have been working hard to tie down their young players and the future has the potential to be a bright one after the 21-year-old also put pen-to-paper.
Curtis Taylor, Tristan Xerri and Bailey Scott have also signed up in recent months and are part of a strong youthful core that also includes Tarryn Thomas, Jy Simpkin, Nick Larkey, Cam Zurhaar and Luke Davies-Uniacke.
Hayden is excited by the future and is looking forward to the 2021 campaign.
"We’ve got a young group and a lot of talented young guys. It’s exciting for us to grow and develop together, and as we build, hopefully we can put something special together," he told North Media.
The defender impressed during his eight games in 2020 and showed that he is fully over the ruptured Achilles injury that hampered his progress.
"I was pretty proud of my year, coming off a tough injury (achilles rupture)," Hayden added.
"I played every game that I was available, which gave me a lot of confidence knowing that I can play at the level. I want to play every game and I want that to be the norm."
A knee injury in Round 9 ended his season as the jinx struck again but the youngster is hopeful brighter times are on the horizon.
"It was a tough year for the industry as a whole, and a lot of good players and a lot of good people won’t be a part of the game going forward, so I feel really fortunate and thankful to be around for another 12 months, " he said.
"I’m excited to put in some hard work and contribute to team success."
Geelong are priced at 1/1 to win the grand final on Saturday.
