Zaknich believes in hard work

Fremantle Dockers strength and conditioning coach Dan Zaknich believes hard work in pre-season training will pay dividends when the AFL campaign gets under way.

Zaknich has been putting the Dockers players through their paces both on the field and off, with an early-morning running session in Kings Park particularly tough on the Freo squad.

However, Zaknich has no doubts that the pay-offs will be noticeable if his programme works as he expects.

He told the club's official website: "We had guys up on the hill in Kings Park here. We did a large football session yesterday and it's about doing a little bit extra.

"We're fortunate being in Western Australia where it is warmer. There's no doubt that being in the heat will give you a fitness benefit, which we hope will carry over to the season.

"The heat makes things that little bit harder for them when they're training and, ultimately, this is the time for to make those gains in their fitness."

Last season Fremantle finished in 12th place in the AFL regular season standings, missing out on the Finals Series after winning just seven on their 17 games played.

The Dockers are scheduled to open their 2021 AFL season against Melbourne on Saturday 20th March and are 7/4 to make a winning start, with the Demons 9/20 to win the game.
