Wood selected for NZ tour
England have included Mark Wood in their squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand in March but Jake Ball has been dropped.
James Vince and Mark Stoneman retain their places even though they both struggled in the recent 4-0 Ashes defeat to Australia.
Gary Ballance, Ball and Tom Curran have lost their spots in the squad while there is a first Test call-up for 24-year-old Lancashire batsman Liam Livingstone.
England face the Black Caps in a day-night Test in Auckland from 22nd March while the second Test is scheduled to start in Christchurch on 30th March.
"The way Stoneman and Vince played, they do deserve a bit more of a chance," said England coach Trevor Bayliss.
"They were playing against one of the best attacks in the world in their home conditions and showed the potential they have.
"They are aware that it's about performance and scoring enough runs. If, over a period of time, that doesn't happen and you have to look for someone else, that is the way of the game."
England are 1.20 to win the forthcoming one-day series against Australia with Joe Root 4.00 to be his team's top batsman in the series.
