Whiteley to star for Sultans

Six-hitting specialist Ross Whiteley will play for Multan Sultans in the upcoming Pakistan Super League.

Worcestershire's Whiteley, who hit six sixes in an over from left-arm spinner Karl Carver against his native county Yorkshire last summer, has spent this winter in other white-ball tournaments around the world.

The 29-year-old featured in the Bangladesh Premier League for Sylhet Sixers and played in the inaugural T10 tournament in Sharjah shortly before Christmas.

Now he will switch back to T20 mode as part of the Sultans squad in a competition which runs from 22nd February until 25th March.

The powerful left-hander is in a strong overseas contingent at the Sultans which also including Kumar Sangakkara, Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo and Imran Tahir.

Multan's homegrown stars include Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan.

The opening fixture of the tournament - held in the United Arab Emirates - will see the Sultans in action against Peshawar Zalmi in Dubai on 22nd February and the clash with Islamabad United three days later at the same venue.

Dubai and Sharjah will stage the group matches but the eliminators will take place in Lahore on 20th and 21st March and the final in Karachi on 25th March.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are 14/1 to win the Twenty20 World Cup in 2020 and India can be backed at 7/2.
